Bhimtal town in Nainital

 

 

 

Bhimtal is a town in Nainital and it is almost at a distance of 22 km from there. It is at an altitude of 1370 meters above sea level. The attraction point of this town is Bhimtal Lake, which has an island at its centre.It is named after Bhima of Mahabharata. There is a temple built at the bank of Bhimtal Lake and it is said that it was made when Bhima came to this place during his Vanvas.

Apart from the beauty of this place, it is also popular among travellers because it offers adventurous activities. The best time to visit this place is from March to June and September to December. During this time the weather remains pleasant and perfect for sightseeing.

How to reach:

There are number of buses available to reach there. In case the bus terminates at Kathgodam or Nainital, one can take taxi or cab to reach out there.

Kathgodam railway station is the nearest railway station to reach to this place. It is 23kms away from the location. From there one is suggested to take taxis or cabs.

Pantnagar is the nearest airport to this location.It is 55Km away from Bhimtal.

 

 

Places to visit near Bhimtal:

 

Hidimba Parvat – It is a lush green terrain located at a distance of 5 km from Bhimtal. It is also known as Dhungari Temple. It was built in 1553 by Maharaja Bahadur Singh and this hill was named after the wife Hidimba of Bheem from Mahabharata.This temple is surrounded by a cedar forest and is really beautiful place to visit.

 

 

Garg Parwat – It is a small hill located at a distance of 1km from Bhimtal. It is a perfect place to escape the daily life crowd. It is peaceful and offers mesmerizing views.

 

 

Nal Damyanti Tal –This is a small natural lake and it is located at a distance of about 2 km from Bhimtal. The locals believe that, this lake is sacred. The lake is beautiful all over the year but the best time to visit this place is from March to May.

 

 

Butterfly Research Centre – Located at a distance of 1.5kms from Bhimtal, this museum has the collection of beautiful butterflies, moths, beetles, spiders etc. It has around 240 species of butterflies to showcase the travellers.

 

 

Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple – This temple is named after Bheem of Mahabharata. It is at a distance of 1.2km from Bhimtal. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and hold a special religious significance.

Karkotaka Temple – It is one of the famous Nag temples. Thousands of pilgrims visit this temple to pray serpent god. Locals truly believe into this temple. One can visit this place to seek peacefulness.

 

 

 

Folk Culture Museum – Known as Lok Sanskriti Sangrahalaya, this museum was founded by Dr. Yashodhar Mathpal in 1983. It displays artifacts, ancient manuscripts, images of gods, paintings and a treasure of old photographs. 

 

 

Victoria Dam - Located at one end of Bhimtal Lake this dam has terraced flower gardens that are placed on both sides of it. The famous Bhimeshwar temple is situated just next to it.
